The Atmosphere & Its Double a transmission The Era of Exploration that led to the Era of Colonisation is eclipsed in this Space Arm project by a media exploration at the far reaches of self-colonisation. |

A presentation of technology that placed the audience in a position between tactical warfare and an omniscient god. In the namesake of the all seeing Greek god Apollo the American space program's first missions gave us the transformative image of this planet floating in space. |

It was the television pictures that were sent back to us on those missions that introduced the planet as 'other' to us. Nam June Paik cited television as the first anti gravity device in an analogy to 'the space age'. Ostensibly the Apollo missions were directed at lunar exploration but effectively they initiated a web of surveillance and communications satellites above, a presence analogous to that of the moon . |

Space
exploration, that is to say remote surveillance, telerobotic manipulation
(the space arm) or manned remote control machines (space ships), defines
itself as the employed technologies mediation of 'other place'. A sustained
colonial initiative in outer space is subject to the requisite insulating
architecture and technological apparatus as deliniated by the climactic
conditions of the extra terrestrial environment.

The computer/TV screen as porthole on the world is not seen as part of any space program per se but inform a new definition of presence, be it in a geographic, communicative or physical sense. Screen's 'Space Arm' program is an exploration of the audio visual prostheses itself. |

The
inner space astronaught asks that if technology is the extension of man
what is the reciprocal extension of technology? Is it internalized in an
equivalence to the given technologies exterior manipulation of energy,
information or matter in space? How? Self colonization via the incorporation
of technology. The inner astronaut as the 'final frontier, as there are
few renaining global geographies to exploit and assume for ourselves in
the final maximalization of the ethos of the individual.
